Memory Café Receives "A Warm Welcome" from Around Ealing

The Advent Season:&nbsp;Comprises the&nbsp;4 weeks leading up to Christmas. A haunting and tentative time in the liturgical life of the church it is infused with apocalyptic visions of the world to come and tender prophecy&nbsp;of the coming Christ child.&nbsp; 
Christmas:&nbsp;The festival or birth of Jesus Christ which celebrates the day when the saving love&nbsp;of&nbsp;God became a&nbsp;human being. We remember the splendour of the angels proclaiming the birth of the messiah in the Bethlehem night sky&nbsp;alongside the remarkable vulnerability of this cosmic king&nbsp;born in the squalor of a stable to migrant parents who were nearly teenagers. &nbsp;&nbsp;
<h4>Advent & Christmas Schedule</h4>
<ul><li>Choral Evensong for Advent Sunday&nbsp;on Sun 3 Dec | 6pm&nbsp; We welcome the Advent season with a beautiful musical service featuring the St Barnabas choir. Selections will include: Praetorius - Es ist ein ros Entsprungen, Stanford - Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in Bb, and Mozart - Gloria from Spatzenmesse K.220.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Nine Lessons & Carols&nbsp;on Tues 19&nbsp;Dec | 7:30pm The Service of Nine Lessons and Carols is a beautiful traditional service by candlelight. Our expanded choir will sing a wide variety of Christmas music, interspersed by the traditional&nbsp;bible readings recounting the Bethlehem story. A magical service not to be missed.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Crib Service on Sat 24 Dec&nbsp;| 4pm A chance for all the children to gather as the excitement mounts and spend a short time re-enacting the Christmas story in an impromptu Nativity Play. Come dressed for the part you’d like to play, bring mums and dads, grannies and grandpas and all family to join in all the familiar carols and hear the story of Jesus' birth in Bethlehem. For those who are far away you can still join by watching this service on your livestream.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Said Mass on Sun 24 Dec | 10:30am A simple said service for Christmas Eve.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Midnight Mass on Sun 24 Dec | 11pm The first mass of Christmas celebrating the Incarnation and with the blessing of the crib. A candlelit service of reverence and beauty as we welcome Jesus, born in a stable in Bethlehem and listen in awe and wonder to the story told in word and music.</li></ul>
<ul><li>High Mass for Christmas Day&nbsp;on Mon 25 Dec | 10:30am A joyful celebration of Christmas to which all the St Barnabas Family and Friends are invited. PLEASE NOTE: No Noisy Mass or Children's Church on Christmas Day.</li></ul>

St Barnabas Food Pantry&nbsp;
The demand for this initiative which we started in the front entrance porch of the church during Covid lockdown is increasing week by week.&nbsp;&nbsp;Anyone in need is welcome to come along on a Wednesday between 1:00–3:00pm and collect from our donated supplies.&nbsp;&nbsp;There is no registration or referral requirement, all are welcome. Make yourself known to one of our volunteers and they will give you a list to complete and pack your shopping for you. 

 
What items are most needed?
Here is a list of the most requested items:

Rice, Red Lentils, Tinned Meat, Tinned Tuna, Tinned Meat Pies, Baked Beans, Cook-in-Sauce, Custard, UHT Milk, Coffee (small jars if possible), Sweet Biscuits, Savoury Biscuits, Jam, Peanut Butter, Cooking Oil, Squash, UHT Fruit Juice, Bleach, Washing up Liquid, Washing Powder (small boxes if possible), Shower Gel, Shampoo, Toothpaste, Toilet Paper.

Carrier bags also welcome.Monetary donations ALWAYS help. It gives us the flexibility to purchase needed items, and to supplement donations when they run short. What if I or someone else&nbsp;I know could do with food packages?&nbsp;
If you, or someone you know,&nbsp;are struggling for&nbsp;food or household supplies please come along to the Food Pantry to collect some items. You will be very welcome!&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Wednesdays from 1pm-3pm at St Barnabas Church, Pitshanger Lane, W51QJ.

Where do I&nbsp;drop off donations?
If you have items to donate please bring them on Wednesdays from 1:00–3:00pm to St Barnabas Church, Pitshanger Lane, W5 1QG.

Small amounts of fresh food can be accommodated if you bring them at the beginning of the session on a Wednesday. (bread, butter, vegetables etc)

Contribute to the Food Pantry

The Memory Café at St Barnabas Ealing is a meeting place for all in our local community, especially those suffering from any form of memory loss.&nbsp;We meet every Thursday morning from 10.30-12 in the church.

While Memory Café is designed for&nbsp;those who are lonely or live alone and those who are having memory difficulties, there is a warm welcome to everyone. Carers are invited to stay with the person they are looking after and enjoy meeting other carers. We are delighted that a large group from our local residential home for those with dementia also come regularly.

We have a lively band of volunteers who prepare coffee, tea and homemade cake for our guests and spend time chatting with them. There are a variety of activities each week including quizzes, bingo, art classes, keep fit, community singing and live piano music. We have also enjoyed drama put on by the local Questors theatre.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Occasionally we watch events on the ‘big screen’ such as Trooping the Colour and state events including the Coronation.

Ealing Council has supported our outreach into the community with a ‘Warm Spaces grant’ and we are grateful for other charitable donations.

The café is attended regularly and we serve around 30 guests a week and always welcome any newcomers who drop in.
